Dream’s Angel Reese gets ‘a talent’ praise from Allisha Gray

Angel Reese may not be a perfect basketball player by any means, but one thing that everyone is always guaranteed to see out of her is that she’s never going to stop putting in effort in every second she spends on the hardwood. On Monday, the Atlanta Dream forward made history during a 78-71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks, as she set the all-time single-game record for rebounds in a WNBA game, with 26.

The previous single-game record for rebounds in the WNBA is 24, which Chamique Holdslaw set all the way back in 2003. It should go without saying now that Reese is one of the greatest rebounders in the history of the association even this early in her career. Her detractors can’t even chalk up her record-setting rebound night to her merely rebounding her own misses, as she hauled in 18 defensive boards compared to eight on the offensive glass.

Even her Dream teammate, Allisha Gray, who led the team in scoring on Monday with 20 points on 7-11 shooting, couldn’t believe the game she had on the boards.

“I was looking at the stat thing, and I’m like, ‘Dang, 20 something rebounds?’ How many rebounds she had? I don’t think in my life I got more than 10 rebounds. I think she’s a talent. I’m just watching her rebound, like, that’s a talent,” Gray said of Reese in her postgame interview, via Women’s Hoops Network on X.

Effort requires talent, and Reese has that in spades. It takes so much energy to command the glass the way she does, and the most important thing on defense is securing the ball — and no one does that better in today’s WNBA than the Dream forward.

Never mind that she went 4-14 from the field and she has her troubles at times to put the ball through the hoop. Reese is proving herself to be a winning player by committing herself to doing all the dirty work for her team every time she’s on the court.
