Why Pistons’ Cade Cunningham is ‘under pressure’ vs. the Cavs

Is there significantly more pressure on Detroit Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham than on any other player in his second-round series against the Cleveland Cavs? Some would say the pressure’s on Pistons All-Star Jalen Duren to step up if Detroit is to beat the Cavs in their best-of-7 series.

While some say the pressure lies on Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, others say no one’s feeling the pressure to play at a high level in every game more than Pistons’ Cunningham, including ESPN’s Chiney Ogwumike.

“He is nursing his squad’s success, meaning he’s trying to buy as much time for his teammates and supporting cast to be great and find themselves, and sometimes he has to do bad, talking about the bad-boy Pistons, by himself,” Ogwumike said. “30-plus in multiple playoff games straight. He is someone who’s been under pressure. He’s actually performing at a very, very high level.”

The Pistons, facing a 3-1 deficit to the Orlando Magic in the first round, advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals with a 116-94 win in Game 7.

Pistons All-Star Cade Cunningham leaned on his faith in Game 7, which propelled him to finish with 32 points, including four threes, 12 assists, and two blocks to lead his team to a 22-point victory. When a reporter asked where Cunningham gets his “aura” from, the Pistons guard didn’t hesitate to respond, per the Detroit Free Press’ Omari Sankofa II.

“I get my aura from Jesus Christ – my Lord and Savior,” Cunningham said. “God blessed me with parents who raised me in a way I wouldn’t trade for the world.”
