Why Jon Heyman still has Dodgers over Brewers at No. 1 in his power rankings
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers are currently battling for the No. 1 spot in the National League. Our MLB power rankings agreed with that sentiment, putting Milwaukee over Los Angeles. But the Dodgers should be in the top spot, according to MLB beat writer Jon Heyman.

Heyman explained that it was just one game that separated the two. Additionally, he cited the sports betting odds as a major reason he chose Los Angeles as his top team. It’s not hard to remember that the Dodgers swept the Brewers from the playoffs last season, despite Milwaukee having the home-field advantage. That could be a factor in why Heyman has Los Angeles ahead, especially considering their recent history.
The Dodgers also acquired Tarik Skubal at the trade deadline, improving a rotation that was already among the best. Currently, they rank fourth in starting pitchers’ ERA, according to MLB.com. That is just one spot behind the Brewers, who rank third. The Dodgers and Brewers are almost neck-and-neck in every single offensive category, except for home runs. The Dodgers are among the best in that category, while the Brewers are 30th.
While the Dodgers have had some bullpen issues, that has not hurt them in the past. Many fans will remember that Game 7 of the World Series featured multiple starters, and only one pitcher who was actually a reliever during the season. They have improvised in the past, and MLB experts like Heyman expect them to do it again. If the Dodgers and Brewers continue their run, there could be a rematch coming this October.
