Why Jimmy Rollins isn’t worried about Phillies’ 8-8 start

With some arguing that the Philadelphia Phillies have been flopping in the 2026 season to start with an 8-8 record ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, Jimmy Rollins makes the case that there isn’t anything to worry about. As there should be a sense of urgency with the Phillies, Rollins would downplay any discourse about the 8-8 start.

Speaking on TNT Sports, Rollins was asked about Philadelphia starting with an 8-8 record and if anything needs to be looked at in order to panic. For Rollins, he would go into how the team is “going to be fine.”

“They’re .500, they’re right there, if you’re a Philly fan, and we’ve always felt this way,” Rollins said. “If we finish over .500, right around .500 in the first month of the season, we’re going to be fine. And this is the same group. They’re veteran players. They know how to go out there and win. There’s no panic button. They’ve been to the mountaintop, although they haven’t, you know, been crowned.”

“They know what it takes to get to Octobe; they expect to be there,” Rollins continued. “Let these guys, you know, get on their feet. It’s starting to warm up rather early in Philadelphia, but it still isn’t quite hitting the season yet. Some of these guys were playing in the WBC. We are talking about the life of the bats. No excuse, because there are a lot of teams that have, that they’re going to find their footing.”

At any rate, the 16-game sample size is out of 162 games, so Rollins has a point on it being way too early to project any disappointment from the team. The Phillies look to ease concerns as the team continues the series against the Cubs on Tuesday and Wednesday.
