White Sox place pitcher on IL ahead of Giants clash

Given recent history, things have been going swimmingly for the Chicago White Sox. They are 26-24 and second in the American League Central Division. Meanwhile, they are in the midst of the three-game series with the San Francisco Giants, beginning with a 9-4 victory on Friday.

However, they got news that right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain. In the process, they recalled right-handed pitcher Jordan Leasure from Class AAA Charlotte.

Hicks’ injury status is retroactive to May 21. Altogether, the Chicago pitching staff has been heavily reliant on the likes of Davis Martin and Noah Schultz. Additionally, closer Seranthony Domínguez has been the anchor of the bullpen. In addition to Hicks and Leasure, right-hander Drew Thorpe remains out and in recovery after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year.

In February, Hicks was traded to the White Sox by way of the Boston Red Sox. He was brought in to provide additional depth to the bullpen.

This year, Hicks is 0-1 with a 5.60 ERA and 15 strikeouts.

Hicks has been in the league since 2018, beginning with the St. Louis Cardinals. He played from 2018 to 2019 and from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, Hicks played one season with the Toronto Blue Jays. He then played for the Giants from 2024 to 2025.

In 2025, he played one year with the Boston Red Sox before coming to Chicago.

Currently, Hicks has a record of 17–36 and a 4.46 ERA along with 424 strikeouts and 36 saves.

The White Sox begin their second game of the three-game series in San Francisco at 3:05 pm CST.
