Where to watch Manchester United vs Man City as fans plan protest before first derby of season

Manchester United fans will be protesting before the first Manchester derby of the Premier League season this Sunday afternoon.

A group of supporters are going to make a stand against the club amid backlash over their response to ticket touting.

United have been clamping down on touting in recent months, restricting certain accounts and demanding extra details.

An apology from the club followed after they threatened to withdraw the tickets from some accounts of loyal supporters who innocently shared details and single devices – however, further backlash has now come their way after another incident.

Ahead of their Champions League clash against Sabah at Old Trafford on Thursday, some supporters were sent a message regarding ticketing for the match.

In a post on X, which has been seen by almost two million people, a fan revealed a message that bluntly read: “You don’t have a ticket for the Sabah game on Thursday – do not come to Old Trafford.”

It also warned that the fan’s season ticket could be deactivated for a match in the Premier League if they didn’t buy a ticket.

That has led to anger from supporters, despite United accepting the wording could have been better and revealing that the message was only sent after multiple email follow-ups, according to the BBC.

And now, due to the ticketing issues, the 1958 Man United fans’ group have announced they will be protesting this weekend.

They wrote: “Manchester United supporter groups are being called upon to all stand together following reports of bans and season ticket sanctions without clear and compelling evidence always being presented.

“For generations, match-going Reds have given their time, money and loyalty to Manchester United, home and away. That loyalty deserves to be treated with respect.

“This is not about one group or one individual. It is about how Manchester United treats its match-going supporters.

“It may not affect you today, it may not next time but that day is coming for all of us.

“If there is clear, substantive evidence of serious wrongdoing or organised ticket touting, show it.

“No loyal supporter should be treated as guilty without being given a fair opportunity to understand and challenge the case against them.”

When is Man United vs Man City?

The Manchester derby is taking place on Sunday, September 13.

Kick-off at Old Trafford is set for 4:30pm.

Man United vs Man City team news

Marcus Rashford should be fit for the derby this weekend after being substituted with a knock against Everton.

Manager Michael Carrick said it was ‘nothing major’, so the winger is likely to keep his starting spot at Old Trafford.

But summer signing Carlos Baleba has still not made his debut after arriving with an ankle issue that will keep him out again.

Meanwhile, Amad Diallo missed the dramatic clash with Everton and is not expected to make his return in the derby.

Matthijs De Ligt, Tom Heaton and Manuel Ugarte are still out, although the former is closing in on a comeback.

As for Man City, Nico O’Reilly pulled up in the warm-up before their win over Coventry, but he should be back.

The England international’s problem wasn’t serious and Enzo Maresca is hopeful that he will be able to feature.

Jeremy Doku is expected to remain on the sidelines, while Enzo Fernandez is set to make his Manchester derby debut.
