What Knicks’ star Jalen Brunson told reporter about White House visit hours before James Dolan’s announcement
The New York Knicks recently created history when the NBA Championship after a span of 53 years. Following a dominating finals series win over the San Antonio Spurs and an MVP performance from Jalen Brunson in the final match, an announcement was made by James Dolan about the team’s White House visit.
“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” Dolan said during an appearance on WFAN, a day before the Knicks’ New York City parade. However, it is yet to be seen if Brunson and his teammates plan to visit the White House, a traditional honor for championship teams.
In a recent article by New York Magazine, Brunson appeared noncommittal when asked about a White House trip. “We haven’t discussed it,” Brunson said. “But as a team, we’ll discuss it and we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
During Trump’s first term, multiple NBA teams chose not to visit the White House, such as the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018, the Toronto Raptors in 2019, and the L.A. Lakers in 2020. The Denver Nuggets declined to visit President Biden’s White House in 2024 due to a scheduling conflict. The Oklahoma City Thunder also did not visit Trump’s White House in 2025.
Knicks’ owner Dolan is friendly with President Trump and hosted him in his suite for Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Spurs, when Trump was booed by the Madison Square Garden crowd. While Dolan has accepted the White House’s invitation, there have been no confirmed updates on Brunson or his team members visiting it.
