What Cam Coleman said about blockbuster Week 2 clash with Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State

Texas football versus Ohio State in Week 2 presents more than an eye-grabbing quarterback battle. Arch Manning and Julian Sayin aren’t the only ones fueling early intrigue for that contest. Auburn transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman earned mention with Buckeyes star wideout Jeremiah Smith Wednesday.

Now Coleman has responded to that comparison. Coleman shared via Tyler Horka of On3 that sharing the field with Smith “is going to be fun.”

That second week showdown pits a rare matchup between the two projected top wideouts in the nation. Both already landed on the watch list for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, handed to the nation’s best college wideout.

Coleman will be new to his surroundings, though, when both teams clash inside Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin. He wasn’t with the Longhorns in their opening week 14-7 loss to the Buckeyes in Columbus.

But now the ex-Tiger adds new star power for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the ‘Horns. Coleman adds a new deep threat but also a physical downfield presence for Sarkisian and Manning. And the QB receives a trustworthy contested catch option, with Coleman snatching the pigskin in traffic at a high rate last season.

So Coleman’s presence fuels this matchup some more. But Smith owns the more decorated resume with 163 receptions, 2,558 yards and 27 touchdowns across two seasons. Plus Smith is the one who owns the national championship ring, arriving following his breakout freshman campaign of the 2024 season.

Meanwhile, Coleman and Texas will aim to avoid its second straight season opening defeat ahead of the OSU showdown. As the Longhorns host new Pac-12 representative Texas State to start the season.
