West Ham reject bid for El Hadji Malick Diouf from Premier League side

West Ham have rejected an offer from Brentford for El Hadji Malick Diouf and insist he is not for sale, talkSPORT understands.

The 21-year-old was one of the Hammers‘ standout performers last season, as they were ultimately relegated to the Championship.

Diouf impressed at left-back in his debut campaign in the Premier League after joining in a £22million deal plus add-ons from Slavia Prague, with his performances seeing him linked with a move away from the London Stadium.

talkSPORT previously reported that Manchester United were interested in signing the Senegal international back in April.

A deal ultimately did not materialise, and it now appears any possibility of a move is off the table.

Hammer blow

With Brentford now having a bid for Diouf waived away, it understood that West Ham have no plans on selling him.

The Irons had been in need of player sales following their relegation, but they have since recouped £153million in departures.

Mateus Fernandes joined rivals Tottenham in a £85m deal, before Crysencio Summerville signed for Saudi outfit Al Hilal for £68m.

This leaves the Hammers’ finances in a healthy position, and are now no longer under any obligation to offload players.

It is also understood that Brentford’s bid for Diouf, which is unknown, fell short of what the east London side would be tempted by.

Had the offer been accepted, the defender would have become the second player to head to the Bees after leaving West Ham.

Callum Wilson recently moved to west London on a one-year contract following the expiry of his contract at the London Stadium.

It is currently unclear whether Brentford will make another offer for Diouf, who would likely have to come up with a seriously improved bid.

Keith Andrews has several left-back options available at Brentford, with Rico Henry and Aaron Hickey both specialists in the position.

But the pair have both struggled with injuries in recent years, as Hickey spent almost two years out with a hamstring problem before returning last October.

Meanwhile Henry is currently out with a hamstring issue, after making 25 Premier League appearances last term following his return from an ACL injury.

In their place, winger Keane Lewis-Potter has deputised well, but the Bees would no doubt be eager to bring in a designated left-back.

Big guns staying?

As for West Ham, holding onto Diouf would represent another major boost as they head into their first Championship season since 2011.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side are bidding to seal an immediate return to the top-flight by winning promotion, and they will have captain Jarrod Bowen there to spearhead the charge.

Despite being tipped to leave the club, with Liverpool and Aston Villa touted as suitors, Bowen instead signed a revised contract until 2030.

And the Hammers could also now have Diouf on hand in their promotion push, who proved himself a key asset last term.

The Senegalese enjoyed an encouraging debut season at West Ham, providing five assists in 32 Premier League appearances last term.

Diouf also featured for Senegal at this summer’s World Cup, playing in three of their four games as they were ultimately knocked out in the round of 32 by Belgium.
