‘Very sad’ – Alexis Mac Allister drops Liverpool transfer bombshell after contract snub

Alexis Mac Allister has revealed he had offers to leave Liverpool this summer.

The midfielder admitted he was ‘very sad’ not to be offered a new deal by the Reds during a press conference on Tuesday.

Mac Allister spoke to reporters ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

However, the focus soon switched to the World Cup winner’s Liverpool future.

Asked how close he came to leaving the club ahead of this season, Mac Allister explained: “There was a chance.

“As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad.

“Everyone can see I give my 100 per cent for this football club, every single day in training, games. Of course I can have very good games, very bad games like everyone. I always give my best.

“And I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine.

“Of course, there is still time. The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I’m here.

“We will see what happens. There were options to leave this summer and I think right now I’m in the right club and I have the mindset to give my 100 per cent for this club.”

Mac Allister, who signed for the Reds from Brighton in 2023, is currently under contract until the end of next season.

Since joining the club, he has scored 19 goals and added 20 assists in 153 appearances across all competitions.

The 27-year-old has also won both the Premier League and Carabao Cup with Liverpool.

When asked if he was given a reason why a new contract was not offered, Mac Allister added: “Not really.

“There wasn’t any direct conversation with me, it was with my agent.

“I don’t want to say things they never said, but what I got from my agent was that they were not in a position to renew me.

“It’s really sad because we won a Premier League together, we’ve been through difficult times together and I always give my best.

“We will see what happens but of course it makes me a little bit sad.”

Mac Allisters’ remarks come after Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch were both handed new deals.

The former’s long-term extension was confirmed in July, with the contract understood to run until 2031.

Meanwhile, Gravenberch has committed his future until 2032, with his extension announced in March.
