Watch Pete Alonso give Orioles’ season momentum boost with walk-off vs. Blue Jays

The Baltimore Orioles witnessed Pete Alonso struggle by his own admission Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays. But he just boosted some momentum for the O’s Saturday.

Tied 5-5 with the bases loaded, plus facing a two-ball, one-strike count, Alonso ripped this down the middle to send Baltimore into euphoria.

The RBI blast ended the game with a 6-5 victory over the defending American League champs. And Alonso endured previous struggles before that hit.

He originally went 0-for-3 at the plate until that final deciding walk-off hit. He drove in Taylor Ward to seal the home win for the O’, who now improve to 27-32 overall.

Alonso, again, became his own worst critic just two night ago. Especially after going 1-for-4 in that contest.

“I really enjoy being in those situations, and not to come through for the team there [in the first inning], it really stinks. And then making a baserunning error like that in the eighth obviously stinks as well. Yeah, not a good one,” Alonso said via Orioles reporter Luke Jones after that game. 

He struck out once Saturday but proved he can continue to chip away. Alonso has produced mixed results for Baltimore in his first season with the team.

The 31-year-old has hit the ball 51 times, scored 32 runs and has blasted 11 home runs. However, he’s struck out 58 times while batting .232, lower than his 2025 output with the New York Mets which was .272.

The American League franchise lured in the past MLB All-Star in Dec. 2025, handing Alonso a whopping $155 million. His Saturday RBI became the type of play the O’s clearly envisioned when they signed him.
