Warriors’ Draymond Green reveals how Steve Kerr kept him from ‘quitting’ this season

Draymond Green gave Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr credit for keeping him focused amidst a trying 2025-26 season. With a one-year, $27.7 million option left on his deal, Green says he’s not going to retire this summer. However, Kerr’s future with the team hangs in the balance as his contract has expired. There has been no indication of his return in 2026-27.

Green reflected on Kerr’s profound impact this season, per the Draymond Green Show.

“There was several times this year where I thought about quitting, and each time, he’d just say the right thing to relight that fire and make you wanna go again,” Green said. “That’s a special coach. When you come into a season expecting to compete for a championship, and it goes the way it’s gone for us, man, good luck trying to keep that together.

“So many coaches you see get fired because they just can’t hold it together. When it all goes wrong, they can’t hold it together. Seve Kerr is a master.”

Many believed Green was on the move, including Dryamond himself, who was thrilled to see the trade deadline pass with him still a member of the Warriors.

While many pointed to Kevin Durant as the main source of the Suns’ failed big 3 alongside All-Star Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Warriors’ Draymond Green believes Durant shouldn’t be blamed for the Suns’ shortcomings last season.

Green discussed the Suns’ talented roster, and Durant’s trade to the Rockets was a win/win for both teams.

“Let’s not put this all on Kevin like Kevin’s not great, because Kevin is great, and there will be no Kevin slander on my watch. Kevin’s team wasn’t fighting to get in. Kevin is doing just fine, and they’re doing just fine. When you look at the situation, it benefited both teams for Kevin to leave. It benefited Houston, and it benefited the Suns.”

The Suns will face the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs.
