Dwyane Wade reveals massive expectations for Victor Wembanyama’s career

There might not be a player in the NBA facing bigger expectations in the upcoming season than San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama is entering his fourth year, and many are looking at him to carry the Spurs to the throne after falling short last season. He is even billed as the face of the NBA. With his size, talent, and intelligence, it seems it has become a requirement for him to dominate.

Of course, it is easier said than done, especially with the amount of great players in the league. But for NBA legend Dwyane Wade, there is no other recourse for the 22-year-old Wembanyama.

“I want Wemby to be so great, because he should be. I want him to win five, six, however many rings and Finals MVPs and regular season MVPs. I want to live and say, ‘I saw that,’” said Wade on Wy Network.

“I feel like people who are so great, and they’re so amazing and incredible, not only as human beings, but talented people, they deserve their just. They deserve their due.”

Wembanyama made the leap in his third year. He was named Defensive Player of the Year, finished as runner-up for MVP, selected to the All-NBA First Team, and made his second All-Star Game. He averaged career-highs of 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds, plus 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals, and 3.1 blocks.

More importantly, the pride for France led the Spurs to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014. They also ended a six-year playoff drought.

Wade knows exactly the weight of carrying a franchise, as he did for over a decade with the Miami Heat. He will be the first to tell Wembanyama that part of being an all-time great is to embrace the massive expectations.
