Victor Wembanyama held back by security after Knicks fans throw items at Spurs star amid NYC pandemonium
The New York Knicks are one win away from basketball immortality.
In their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, New York made NBA history in Game 4 on Wednesday night at MSG as they clinched a 3-1 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs.

Facing a 29-point deficit on their home turf, the Knicks somehow completed the largest comeback in finals history.
In the fourth quarter of the content, the deficit shrank possession by possession, with Jalen Brunson delivering the breakthrough, a layup with 1:22 remaining to give the Knicks their first lead of the game at 105-104.
San Antonio wrestled back the lead once more on a pair of Stephon Castle free throws, but in the dying embers of the gamr, an unsung hero emerged.
Brunson missed a contested three in the closing seconds, but OG Anunoby slipped through the defense and tipped in the winning basket to set off scenes of delirium in the Garden. It came just moment after Anunoby had blocked De’Aron Fox’s seemingly wide open layup attempt that would have sealed the win for the visitors.
The Knicks led for a total of 53.8 seconds all night. The final 1.2 seconds made all the difference.
Victor Wembanyama held back by security as Knicks fans throw items at him
Victor Wembanyama finished Game 4 with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for San Antonio.
“It began before that,” Spurs star Victor Wembanyama said of when the collapse started.
“I can’t really explain it right now. Execution, greediness, of some sort. We clearly weren’t the most hungry in the second half.”
Wembanyama described the feeling in the Spurs locker room as “painful” before things got worse as the team arrived at their hotel after the game.
Knicks fans have been rowdy all series, and things escalated dramatically when they started throwing items at Wembanyama as he arrived at the team hotel surrounded by a mob of Knicks fans.

At least two projectiles could been seen being hurled towards the Spurs phenom as he walked off the team bus and onto the street.
Wembanyama turned to face the culprits, before being held back by security and quickly escorted into the hotel.
The win sparked celebrations across Midtown, where crowds spilled into streets and packed businesses around the arena.
Traffic on Eighth Avenue ground to a halt as fans filled intersections and sidewalks.
In the minutes after the victory, fans climbed poles and swarmed NYPD vehicles as crowds surged through the area.
At the corner of West 37th Street and Eighth Avenue, nearly a dozen people climbed atop police vehicles parked in the middle of the street.

The NYPD warned people they were obstructing roadways and could face arrests, before Gothamist that multiple arrests were made.
“CHAOS IN THE STREETS NYC IS GONE,” one account posted on X.
“ITS ONLY GOTHAM CITY NOW.”
Charles Barkley slams Spurs for handing New York the win
NBA icon Charles Barkley is never afraid to share his opinion on proceedings.
Barkley may have inspired San Antonio’s comeback in Game 3, putting his house on the line during the halftime broadcast.
However, after blowing the largest lead in NBA finals history, his tone shifted dramatically.
“We saw the dumbest basketball team in the history of civilisation,” Barkley said after the game.
“That was some of the most mis-managed, stupid basketball and when you blow a 29-point lead, the other team has to help you.

“The San Antonio Spurs helped the New York Knicks win this game by doing some of the stupid-a** I have ever seen on a basketball court.”
Only one team in history, the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, have overturned a 3-1 series deficit to win the Finals.
San Antonio must now become the second if they are to deny the Knicks from winning their first championship in over 50 years.
