Tyler Herro, Norman Powell injury problems persist amid Heat’s play-in push

With the Miami Heat preparing for its fourth straight play-in tournament, the team is looking to close out the final two games of the regular season on a positive note, though the team’s injury woes continue. As Heat stars Tyler Herro and Norman Powell headline the injury report, here is a look at where the team is heading into Friday night’s game against the Washington Wizards.

Miami is locked into the play-in tournament, as the team is currently at the 10th seed, but still has a chance to move up to eighth when it’s all said and done, though they don’t control their own destiny. All the Heat are focused on is winning out and worrying about the rest later, with a matchup against the lowly Wizards on deck before the regular-season closer on Sunday, where they host the Atlanta Hawks.

However, Friday’s game has an injury report that includes key players on Miami, as it doesn’t help that the game is the second of a back-to-back after a second straight painful loss to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night. Starting with Herro, he has been ruled out for the contest due to “right foot soreness,” with the likely focus for the team being to conserve health for the play-in tourney.

Herro is coming off a game where he recorded 15 points on six of 12 shooting from the field, three of five from deep, to go along with four assists.

Norman Powell’s status for the Heat against the Wizards

With Herro out, this would usually be a game where Powell would be the main offensive weapon alongside Bam Adebayo, but the veteran guard is likely to miss the contest. Looking at Powell, who has been leading the Heat with 22.1 points per game, he is “doubtful” for the game with “right groin soreness.”

Powell had said before Thursday’s loss to the Raptors that he would be playing through the groin injury throughout the postseason. Besides the two guards, starting point guard Davion Mitchell is questionable with a “right shoulder contusion,” whereas Nikola Jovic and Dru Smith are out for the contest.
