Twins’ Joe Ryan drops glove after monstrous Munetaka Murakami home run
Chicago White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami can’t stop hitting bombs, and his latest victim was Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan.
In the eighth inning of Tuesday night’s game between the Twins and the White Sox at Rate Field in Chicago, Murakami took Ryan deep for a clutch two-run blast to tie the score at 2-2.
After getting a ball on Ryan’s first pitch and a strike on the second, Murakami smashed his 19th home run of the 2026 MLB season off an 82 mph sweeper from Ryan, turned around and dropped his gloves as he watched the ball vanish into oblivion.

That was also Murakami’s second home run in the Twins series. He launched one in the White Sox’s 3-1 victory in the series opener on Monday.
For Ryan, it was the fourth home run he’s allowed so far in the 2026 season. He’s been showing some improvement this season in terms of home run suppression, but Murakami was not having any of that, at least during that at-bat.
In 2025, Ryan surrendered 26 long balls and posted a 3.8 percent home run rate. The Twins pitcher entered Tuesday’s game with just a 1.3 percent home run rate.
The good news for Ryan is that the Twins came away with a win over Murakami and the White Sox in this second leg of the series, thanks in large part to third baseman Brooks
Lee’s huge three-run double in the 11th inning gave Minnesota a 5-3 victory.
The Twins improved to 27-28 and will look to get the series lead on Wednesday with
Connor Prielipp is scheduled to start for Minnesota in that contest.
