Tony Khan says Chris Jericho made the choice to remain with AEW
Absent from pro-wrestling for almost a year, Chris Jericho recently made his AEW return on last week’s episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite in his hometown of Winnipeg, Canada. Last seen wrestling at the 2025 AEW Dynasty PPV against Bandido, Jericho has remained absent from in-ring action since then.
However, earlier this year, Jericho became heavily rumored to join WWE and begin his final wrestling run there. However, after he did not show up at Monday Night RAW’s Stranger Things night as well as the 2026 Royal Rumble, fans started wondering about his AEW status.
Recently, speaking to Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo, AEW President Tony Khan opened up on Jericho’s status and revealed that it was his decision and choice to remain with All Elite Wrestling.
“I can’t say with any certainty. I do know that Chris had a choice, and he wanted to be in AEW,” he said. “He would be the best person to ask. But I know that I’ve been in communication with Chris. He told me he definitely wanted to be in AEW and very specifically in Winnipeg on that date. We’ve had that circled for a long time going back to last year.
“It was a choice that Chris made, rather being in AEW than wrestling anywhere else, and I think that’s awesome. So I can’t say for sure Coach exactly what his mind was or what he was thinking but he definitely has been consistent that he loves AEW and that he wants to be here and I’m glad he chose to be in AEW and that’s a choice he made because he was a free agent,” Khan concluded.
With Jericho now back in AEW, there are currently no confirmed updates on his upcoming run or booking plans.
