Timberwolves to host Alabama star before NBA Draft

The Minnesota Timberwolves must address their future in three more days. They hold the 28th pick of the 2026 NBA Draft and surely, handing Anthony Edwards help rises at the top. Especially after watching old star Karl-Anthony Towns celebrate his NBA Finals win with the New York Knicks.

Alabama star LaBaron Philon is surfacing as a new possibility.

Philon is set to perform an individual workout with Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune Saturday. This sparks theories that the T-Wolves want history to repeat itself.

“Philon’s workout is an indication the Wolves are canvassing their options in terms of moving up from No. 28 in the first round. The last time the Wolves moved up in the draft for a guard, they did so in a major way two years ago,” Chris Hine of the Star-Tribune wrote.

Philon certainly can deliver electric production next to the face of the franchise “Ant.” The Crimson Tide shooter improved his perimeter production this past season playing for head coach Nate Oats. He provides a new quick, shifty option the Timberwolves can turn to next to Edwards. Landing Philon boosts Minnesota’s pick-and-roll game too, as he knows how to read defenses during those plays.

But there’s another move to monitor in the Twin Cities: What becomes of star big Rudy Gobert. The NBA All-Star but polarizing front court option remains a subject of trade rumors. Minnesota could easily ship him away especially if it means landing new draft capital in return.

Now Philon surfaces as a pre-draft name to watch for the T-Wolves.
