Cubs’ Dansby Swanson rudely welcomes Tarik Skubal to NL with stunning HR
The Los Angeles Dodgers sent shockwaves through MLB when they acquired Tarik Skubal in a trade with the Detroit Tigers. On Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs got the first crack at Skubal as a member of the National League.
Dansby Swanson ensured the Cubs welcomed the back-to-back Cy Young winner to their ranks in style. In the third inning, the shortstop knotted the game at one with a 401-foot home run.

Through four innings, Skubal has only allowed two hits and one walk while striking out four. However, one of those hits went over the fence. And with Cubs starter Javier Assad battling – one earned run over five innings with two hits and walks and three strikeouts – the Dodgers aren’t dominating in Skubal’s Los Angeles debut.
Still, as the Cubs try to go on a deep playoff run, this may not be the last time they see Skubal. The Dodgers will be deemed the World Series favorites until they win it all or are knocked out. There’s a chance the Cubs’ own playoff path runs through the defending champions.
Chicago is well aware of the challenge that comes with facing Skubal. But they’d remain hopeful that Swanson continues driving in runs no matter the opposition. After his latest home run, the shortstop is now hitting .216 with 17 home runs, 62 RBIs and 16 stolen bases through his first 109 games on the season.
The Cubs are going to need more than just one run to take down Skubal. But Swanson at least proved the latest Dodgers’ addition isn’t invincible.
