Timberwolves rumors: Alex Rodriguez sick of hearing about Mavericks’ Tim Connelly interest
The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently gearing up for the second round of the NBA playoffs, which are slated to start on Monday night on the road against the San Antonio Spurs. The Timberwolves’ roster depth was on full display in the first round, as the team was able to dispatch the Denver Nuggets in six games despite multiple key injuries, including to star Anthony Edwards.
The architect of Minnesota’s deep roster is executive Tim Connelly, who has reportedly been the subject of the Dallas Mavericks’ search for a new president of basketball operations. However, the Timberwolves’ brass is not exactly on board with those discussions, per NBA insider Marc Stein.
“Minnesota co-owner Alex Rodriguez (is) said to have grown quite weary of reading about the Mavericks’ interest,” reported Stein on his Substack.
Stein also reported that “there has been a growing resignation in Dallas that permission to speak with the Wolves’ Tim Connelly in search of a new head of basketball operations is unlikely to be granted.”
Overall, it seems that Connelly would be happy to stay in Minnesota, where he has ushered in the franchise’s first real era of prosperity in history, making it to two straight Western Conference Finals and looking to add a third this postseason, if they can find a way to get by the Spurs.
Meanwhile, the Mavericks’ front office has been in limbo ever since they fired Nico Harrison less than a year after his fateful decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
For now, though, it appears that Dallas won’t be finding its new front office leader from the Timberwolves’ organization, at least if Rodriguez has anything to say about it.
