Tigers set to make huge Gleyber Torres move for Rays game

Detroit Tigers infielder Gleyber Torres has been recovering from an oblique injury. Torres has been trending in the right direction, and it seems as if he will return on Tuesday.

Gleyber Torres will be activated from injured list tonight and be in Tigers lineup against Rays LHP Steven Matz, manager A.J. Hinch told @MLBNetworkRadio,” Jason Beck of MLB.com reported on Tuesday.

Torres, 29, has been limited to 32 games played so far during the 2026 season. He has performed well while on the field, as the veteran currently holds a .259/.389/.328 slash line across 32 games played. Torres, a three-time All-Star, will certainly give the Tigers a crucial boost.

However, the Tigers are in an extremely difficult position at the moment. They have been one of the worst teams in all of baseball this year. Detroit is 23-38 overall and in last place in the American League Central standings as of this story’s writing. The Tigers are tied with the Los Angeles Angels and Colorado Rockies for the worst record in the entire sport.

Perhaps Gleyber Torres’ return will help the ball club get back on track. With that being said, the Tigers have no shortage of work to do if they want to avoid being sellers at the MLB trade deadline. Right now, they are on track to sell but anything can happen over the next month.

On Monday, Detroit earned a 10-9 win against the Tampa Bay Rays. Tuesday’s Tigers-Rays game in Tampa Bay is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST as Torres prepares to make his return from injury.
