Michael Penix Jr., Tua Tagovailoa plans revealed before Atlanta’s starting QB announcement
With the start of the NFL season around the corner, the Falcons’ plans for the quarterback position are rounding into form. According to a report by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on the Pat McAfee Show. The Falcons have not decided who will be their starter, but Michael Penix Jr. is ramping up, and the team is seeing if he’s ready for action.
"The Falcons wanna take a look this week at Michael Penix and see how he responds..
They wanna see how he physically feels being out there for a full week..
They haven't made a decision yet on who's gonna be their starter" ~ @AdamSchefter #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/KHDPB2tPI9

“I can tell you exactly what’s going on there. They wanna take a look this week at Michael Penix and see how he responds, see how he physically feels when he’s out there practicing for a full week, 11 on 11, go through things. And they also would like to see, if they decide to go Tua, what it would be like for him to get all the reps working with the ones, which he wasn’t getting all summer long. He had some injury issues early on. They shared some of the reps. Cooper Rush got some, Jack Strand got some, uh, Penix in the seven-on-seven drills got some.
Schefter continued, “Look, it’s not gonna be Jack Strand starting, it’s not gonna be Cooper Rush starting. Mm. It’s down to Tua and Penix, and they don’t have a decision yet on what they’re gonna do. And I think Penix’s health this week will go a way towards determining exactly how they do that
The Atlanta Falcons’ first game is against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, September 13th. Whether Tua Tagovailoa or Penix starts is up in the air, but fans can expect a decision soon.
