Thunder’s Shai-Gilgeous-Alexander hits Lakers fans with LeBron James, Luka Doncic free throw mic drop
The defending champion and reigning MVP, who has led his team to a perfect 8-0 record in this year’s playoffs, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is embracing the villain role, much like Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James and Luka Doncic. After Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder swept the Lakers to advance to the Western Conference Finals, he addressed the hate he receives, and took a subtle shot at James and Doncic.
Gilgeous-Alexander hears the harsh critics constantly keeping tabs on how he draws contact. However, Gilgeous-Alexander says he’s not the only All-Star earning consistent trips to the free-throw line, such as James and Doncic, he said, per ESPN’s Tim Keown.
“It’s fun to me,” he says. “The way I see it, the fans, the people that watched the games and root against us, they want their team to win. You will never hear an Oklahoma City Thunder fan complaining about my free throws. You will never hear a Lakers fan complaining about LeBron or Luka’s free throws.”
Amid many fans rooting against SGA and the Thunder, Gilgeous-Alexander understands the frustration they feel.
“I get it, guys,” he says. “I would hate me, too.”
After sweeping LeBron James and the Lakers, Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will host the winner of the Spurs-Timberwolves series.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander admits ‘toll’ after Lakers sweep

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander says beating the Lakers took a toll on him. With a week’s rest ahead of the best-of-7 series, Gilgeous-Alexander says he had to shake off the rust, and the Lakers’ constant double-team, which rattled the reigning MVP’s offense early.
After coughing up seven turnovers in Game 1, Gilgeous-Alexander’s 35 points and eight assists closed out Game 4 to complete a Lakers sweep. Gilgeous-Alexander reflected on the series in his walkoff interview, per ESPN.
“It’s been tough personally, battling the rust. The rust has been taking its toll on me. Gotta stay in the gym. Trust the work. It’ll all even out,” Gilgeous-Alexander told Allie Clifton of NBA on Prime in his postgame interview.
The Thunder is the first team to start the postseason 8-0 since the Warriors’ 15-0 start in 2017.
