Louisville lands ex-UNC star in bombshell transfer portal coup

With an already loaded roster, Louisville got even stronger with the addition of a battle-tested veteran via the transfer portal on Wednesday.

The Cardinals scored a major coup with Flory Bidunga, who left Kansas after two years. They also have Adrian Wooley, who is expected to make a big leap in the upcoming season, Jackson Shelstad, Alvaro Folgueiras, and Karter Knox.

Now, Seth Trimble has joined Louisville, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Tuesday. Trimble played four years at North Carolina and applied for this year’s NBA Draft. He, however, was not selected.

“Former UNC star guard Seth Trimble has committed to Louisville, he tells ESPN, giving the Cardinals another marquee piece for a team projected among the best in the sport. Trimble entered the portal this spring, and the Colorado district court ruling on the class of 2022 (high school) opened the door for his eligibility,” said Thamel.

Thamel, however, noted that the “eligibility is not certain,” as the NCAA could still fight the court ruling, which could nullify the move of Trimble, who averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals with the Tar Heels last season.

But if it pushes through, the 22-year-old guard could fill the void left by Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell, who are now with the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat, respectively. Trimble could also provide steadiness and leadership for the Pat Kelsey-helmed squad.

Trimble is coming off an Exhibit 10 contract with the Washington Wizards. He played five games for the Wizards in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.
