Thunder waste Shai Gilgeous-Alexander masterclass in stunning Game 7 loss
OKLAHOMA CITY — Despite Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scoring 35 points against Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, the Thunder’s season came to an end in a 111-103 loss. Gilgeous-Alexander finished 12-for-21 from the floor, including 2-for-5 from deep, and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. He also added nine assists, four rebounds, and three steals in a losing effort.
After Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder managed to trim their deficit to six with 2:02 left in the fourth quarter, the Spurs strung together stops and drained timely shots to close out the defending champions’ season.
After Wembanyama, an MVP candidate, watched Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accept his award before Game 1, the All-Star center earned the last laugh, winning Game 7 to head to the NBA Finals, with the Western Conference Finals trophy in tow.
