Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald ‘really impressed’ by early Trevon Diggs contributions

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald came away extremely pleased with how quickly former Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs has acclimated to the defense, following Friday night’s 9-9 preseason tie against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Diggs, who signed with Seattle on Aug. 19 after past stints with the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, made an immediate splash in his Seahawks debut. Suiting up for his first action with the team, Diggs intercepted a pass on Kansas City’s second drive to set an early physical tone. Macdonald praised the defensive back’s rapid adjustment after the game, noting that Diggs has caught up on technique and scheme demands with impressive speed.

“He has really come up to speed, and that is really saying something,” Macdonald said of Diggs’ transition. “The players are doing a great job catching him up. He knows what to catch up on, technique, and I’ve been really impressed since he has come here.”

The exhibition finale also served as a major platform for second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe. Playing the entirety of the game, Milroe put together his best performance of the preseason, completing 16 of 26 passes for 223 yards and a four-yard touchdown strike to tight end Nick Vannett, while adding 20 rushing yards on seven carries. Receiver Cody White helped anchor the passing attack, hauling in a 40-yard deep shot and leading all receivers with 69 yards.

While Macdonald acknowledged the outing felt “choppy” at times, punctuated by a late 52-yard missed field goal from Jason Myers that preserved the tie, the head coach took full responsibility for operational execution on the headset while commending his young core’s resilience. With the preseason wrapped, the Seattle Seahawks now turn their attention toward finalizing their 53-man roster for Week 1.
