Ravens’ Jesse Minter talks Tyler Loop’s future after 2 missed kicks vs. Commanders

The Baltimore Ravens closed the preseason with a 3-0 record after a 41-3 victory over the Washington Commanders in the finale. While there was much to celebrate, Tyler Loop received boos and chants against him after missing two kicks on game night.

However, Ravens coach Jesse Minter made his feelings clear while talking about his confidence level in the young kicker.

“You want to see makes in games,” Minter said via ESPN’s Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley. “And so, it’s something we’ll continue to look at. We’ll continue to look at what the best situation is there. He has had a good camp overall, but again, it comes down to making the kicks and the pressure situations in the game. So, that’s something I think that we’ll always be looking at to make sure that we’re doing what’s best for the team.”

While initially, the Ravens did not bring in another competition for the kicker role, things might not be the same forever. Coming next season, rookie coach Minter may explore options before the September 13 regular-season kickoff.

Loop himself accepted high expectations from him. The Arizona alum also mentioned he keeps himself in check for any such shortcomings.

“It’s my job to transfer that to the game. I know the expectation is to make kicks, and the expectations I have for myself are higher than anyone else going to have. And tonight is not good enough,” Loop said after the game via ESPN.

However, while bringing in another kicker has not been dismissed completely, Loop showed confidence in his ball-kicking abilities, something that he could channel as motivation to bounce back and forget the recent slump.

“I’m confident in my ball-striking. When I’m striking the ball good, it’s really good, and that has to carry over, and that’s all we’re focused on,” he added.

We will wait to see if or when the Ravens bring on another reliable name for the kicker role. With the regular season kicking off next month, the Ravens play the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, September 13.
