Matt LaFleur addresses Josh Jacobs’ future with Packers following formal charges

Following the news that Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs faces misdemeanor charges, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is addressing the issue. LaFleur expects Jacobs to continue to have a role with the team, per ESPN.

“Well, I fully anticipate him being a member of our team,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur wants the legal process to play out. Jacobs was charged with battery and criminal damage to property, the outlet reported.

“You’ve got to let everything play out,” LaFleur said. “But I anticipate him being a member of our football team.”

Jacobs is facing some serious allegations, regarding events that allegedly occurred earlier this year.

“Jacobs was originally arrested May 26 on five counts, including one felony, but formal charges were not filed until Thursday. According to the criminal complaint, Jacobs grabbed a woman and threw her to the ground and she struck her head. The alleged incident happened at Jacobs’ home near Green Bay on May 23,” ESPN reported.

The NFL can choose to slap a suspension on Jacobs, or other penalties. The league doesn’t have to wait for the legal process to play out, in order to implement those measures.

“I can’t really comment on that because I don’t know,” LaFleur said.

League officials have yet to hand down any punishment.

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said Thursday, per ESPN.

Jacobs didn’t appear in the team’s final NFL preseason game, against the Arizona Cardinals. He was scheduled to rest, as were most of Green Bay’s starters.

Green Bay starts their regular season games against the Minnesota Vikings, on September 13. During the 2025 season, Jacobs rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns.
