Saints HC Kellen Moore reveals who called plays in preseason win over Cowboys

New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore called the offense during Friday’s 27-24 preseason victory over the Dallas Cowboys, taking back the duties after delegating them earlier in the exhibition schedule.

The win at AT&T Stadium completed New Orleans’ preseason and gave Moore another live evaluation before final roster reductions Sunday. Starting quarterback Tyler Shough sat while Spencer Rattler and Zach Wilson split the work. Rattler completed 8 of 10 passes for 79 yards, while Wilson went 9-for-12 for 93 yards.

WDSU News’s Farrah Yvette shared a clip from Moore’s postgame availability Friday on X, formerly Twitter, following the Saints’ preseason finale.

Moore allowed offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier to call the offense during the preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Terry Joseph handled the defensive calls in that game. Moore returned to his customary offensive role Friday as New Orleans generated 169 rushing yards on 32 carries. The production helped the Saints finish without committing a turnover.

Barion Brown, Rattler, and Zamir White each scored on the ground. Rattler’s touchdown covered eight yards, while White reached the end zone from 11 yards out.

Daniel Carlson converted a 53-yard field goal with 1:55 remaining after Dallas completed a fourth-quarter rally. The kick secured the Saints’ only victory of the preseason.

The outing provided Moore with live play-calling work before the regular season. New Orleans opens September 13 vs. the Detroit Lions at Ford Field, when Moore will begin his second season as the Saints’ head coach.
