The ‘impossible’ stats behind Rockets epic fail to start Lakers series

The Houston Rockets have found themselves down 2-0 in their series against the Los Angeles Lakers, and many people would have been surprised to hear that before it started. Game 1 was understandable since Kevin Durant was out, but that still felt like a game they should have won. Durant returned in Game 2, but the result was the same for the Rockets.

Offensively, it’s been rough for them, and this stat shows that nothing is going their way, despite getting up the number of shots that they want to.

“Thru 2 games, the Rockets have attempted 44 more field goals than the Lakers and have been outscored by 16 points. That almost feels impossible,” Will Guillory of The Athletic wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Rockets are completely dominating the offensive boards in this series so far, but they’re having a hard time converting those second chances into points. It’s so bad, they haven’t even been able to surpass 100 points in either game.

Throughout the regular season, the Lakers had a good plan on stopping the Rockets, and they’re using it in this playoff series. At this point, it doesn’t even look like they need Austin Reaves or Luka Doncic, because their defense is dictating their offense. They forced Durant into nine turnovers, which ties a career-high for him in the postseason.

With the series heading to Houston, the Rockets are probably hoping that they can get some home cooking going to make things interesting. It seems as if they’re getting the shots that they want, but they’re just not going in. Also they turnovers have to go down, and Durant has to take care of the ball.

If the same things that happened in the first two games continue, the Rockets may find themselves on the brink of getting eliminated quicker than many may have expected.
