Texas A&M Aggies land 2027 LB over Miami, Texas Tech

Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies acquired a talented recruit in the 2027 class, earning Aston Whiteside’s commitment at the linebacker spot.

Whiteside announced his commitment to the Aggies on Monday, per On3 insider Hayes Fawcett. Hailing from Lucas, Texas, he chose the Aggies over the Kentucky Wildcats, Miami Hurricanes, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Whiteside stands out as a three-star defender with an 89 score on 247Sports. He ranks 35th among players at his position and 60th among players from the state of Texas. His composite score of 0.8844 puts him at 43rd, 69th and 538th nationally in those respective categories.

“Lean, athletic modern linebacker with some frame space. Displays promising functional athleticism backed up by excellent testing numbers. Athletic enough to play in space and has gotten some safety reps. Consistent tackler who generally plays low as a striker,” 247Sports’ Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks wrote.

“Will need some more mass to maintain tackling consistency vs. FBS competition. Grabby at times in coverage reps at Under Armour Dallas, but made opponents work for it. P4-caliber linebacker who could potentially stay on the field in all scenarios. Possesses physical tools and verified athleticism that suggest significant long-term upside.”

What’s next for Texas A&M after landing Aston Whiteside

The Texas A&M Aggies’ secondary is looking better for the future with Aston Whiteside making his way to the program next year.

In 2025, Whiteside recorded recording 46 tackles, three TFL, one forced fumble, and one field goal block in nine games. For the year prior, he racked up 104 tackles, three TFL, two INTs, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He even returned both interceptions for touchdowns.

Mike Elko continues elevating the Aggies to great heights after three years, gearing up for Year 4 at the program. He led them to an 11-2 record last season, one of the best in the SEC. However, they suffered a first-round exit in the College Football Playoff after losing to the eventual national runners-up Miami Hurricanes.
