talkSPORT tips – Arsenal vs Coventry bet builder and expert advice

The Premier League kicks off with a clash of champions as the holders, Arsenal, take on last season’s Championship winners Coventry.

While both enjoyed great 2025-26 campaigns, the Gunners’ impressive 3-0 rout of Manchester City in the Community Shield suggests they are still very much the team to beat, with that gulf between Mikel Arteta’s men and Frank Lampard’s Sky Blues set to show in Friday’s Emirates tussle.

Arsenal to win to nil

Coventry will have spent last Sunday analysing Arsenal ahead of their first Premier League game in 25 years. It is likely that analysis now has them fearing for what’s in store.

The Gunners were ruthless at the Principality Stadium, winning the expected-goals battle 2.16-1.12 in a 3-0 demolition. Given Manchester City, supposedly Arsenal’s biggest title rivals, were dispatched so easily, it is hard to see promoted Coventry laying a glove on Arteta’s men.

Last season, Arsenal won five of their six games against promoted sides without conceding and the same fate awaits the Sky Blues, who managed only five victories in their final 15 away games of the 2025-26 campaign.

Christos Tzolis to assist a goal

Arsenal have avoided the cardinal sin of standing still after winning a title, bringing in a number of new faces, including exciting winger Christos Tzolis.

The Greek forward’s last spell in England was rather underwhelming as he flattered to deceive at Norwich but the early signs are that he has significantly grown as a player in the four years since his most recent Premier League appearance.

Tzolis racked up 23 assists in 36 league appearances last term and while doubters were quick to point out that sensational return came in the Belgian Pro League, he quickly silenced the critics at the Principality Stadium.

Arsenal’s new left-winger wasted no time in announcing himself to the fans, providing two assists in the Community Shield, and he should get plenty of space to create against Coventry, whose right-back, Milan van Ewijk, has a tendency to bomb forward.

Caleb Yirenkyi to be booked

Arsenal have had the Premier League’s best defence for a number of years and, after bringing in Bruno Guimaraes to partner Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, they now have the division’s best midfield to match.

That trio are likely to give a Coventry midfield which is short on top-level experience a tough time at the Emirates and while any of those in the Sky Blues’ engine room are viable card candidates, it is new signing Caleb Yirenkyi who appeals most for a booking.

The combative Ghanaian was booked nine times in 30 league games for Nordsjaelland last term and may overstep the mark due to an eagerness to make a strong first impression.

Yirenkyi’s willingness to get stuck was on full show at the 2026 World Cup, where he committed seven fouls and picked up two yellow cards in just 264 minutes, and he is a nice price to be booked on his Coventry debut.
