Storm veteran guard ruled out for Sparks clash

The Seattle Storm have one game remaining on their schedule, a matchup at home against the Los Angeles Sparks before the WNBA goes on temporary hiatus for the FIBA World Cup. The Storm have been without veteran guard Natisha Hiedeman for the past three games due to a shoulder injury, and that will continue into Sunday.

Natisha Hiedeman was officially ruled out on the Storm’s injury report for their game against the Sparks with said shoulder injury. It will be her fourth straight game sidelined, and the next opportunity she will have to get back on the court will be after the FIBA break on Sept. 17 against the Las Vegas Aces.

The eight-year veteran was in the midst of a career season after signing with the Storm as a free agent. She had appeared in 36 games prior to her injury, at a little over 29 minutes per game. Hiedeman had been averaging a career-best 15.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.1 steals with splits of 44.4 percent shooting from the field, 33.7 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 85.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The No. 18 overall pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft, Hiedeman began her career with the Connecticut Sun where she played for the first five seasons of her career before being traded to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for Tiffany Mitchell and a future draft pick.

The former Marquette standout played two seasons with the Lynx before joining the Storm.

As for the team, the Storm have already been eliminated from playoff contention with a handful of games remaining in the regular season. But they have one of the most promising young cores in the league with Dominque Malonga, Awa Fam and Flau’jae Johnson.
