Steve Kerr turns Stephen Curry-Michael Jordan question into Draymond Green mic drop

Following the Golden State Warriors’ disappointing end to the 2025-26 season amid their play-in loss to the Phoenix Suns, one of the major questions surrounding the team is the future of head coach Steve Kerr. While no decision has been made yet, Steve Kerr recently opened up in a wide-ranging interview with The New Yorker where he turned a question about Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan into a heap of praise for Draymond Green’s impact on the Warriors.

Steve Kerr was asked a question via Charles Bethea of The New Yorker about comparing Curry with Jordan, and the longtime Warriors coach took that as an opportunity to highlight the parallel impact Draymond Green has had on the team as well.

“He’s an incredible leader. Michael was an incredible leader himself, but it’s an entirely different approach. I mean, Steph’s compassion for his teammates, his joy in life, his joy for celebrating everybody else’s accomplishments is so powerful,” Kerr said. “But without Draymond’s competitive edge and fight, I don’t think we win all those championships. They were the perfect compliment to each other.”

In a way, Kerr was comparing Green’s role alongside Curry to that of Scottie Pippen alongside Jordan. While Green may not have been as big of an offensive factor, his defense was at an all-time great level.

It’s possible that Green joins Kerr this offseason as far as their future with the franchise being in doubt. Green can choose to opt out of his current contract and become an unrestricted free agent. His name came up in trade rumors involving Giannis Antetokounmpo at the deadline, but nothing materialized.
