Stefon Diggs believes he can ‘hoop still’ after landing with Commanders

The Washington Commanders were able to add a proven veteran to their team this week, signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs in hopes of improving the offense. Diggs had been on the market for some time, but he returns to an area familiar to him, as his younger days playing football started in the DMV.

Diggs knows he’s older now, but he believes in his skill set and what he can still bring to the field. That was the message that he sent during his sit-down with NFL Network.

“I’m 32 years old. I’m on the back end. I’ve got more football behind me than in front of me. But I want to demonstrate I can hoop still. I can do everything I want to do out here. I can be a great receiver for Jayden [Daniels],” Diggs said.

The Commanders had been looking to make some additions to their wide receiver room as there were questions surrounding who would be the No. 2 option alongside Terry McLaurin. Diggs seems to be the answer, and after his first practice with the team, he thinks that everybody on offense has the ability to make a difference.

“It’s good being around other players that can ball,” Diggs said. “It’s going to be hard to double somebody in this offense. You’ve got guys that can make plays and guys that can make plays out of the backfield. You’ve got a mobile quarterback. The biggest thing for me is just my commitment to the game. I play outside, I play inside, a little bit of the backfield if they let me.”

The next step is for the Commanders to go out on the field and produce results, and that will come along with how the offense performs. Diggs is going to bring it every week, and that should be enough for the Commanders to stay competitive on that side of the ball.
