What Giants’ John Harbaugh wants reporters to ‘brag’ about in their ‘columns’

The New York Giants took training camp to West Virginia this season, and while all the players showed up, most of the reporters were in and out. On the final day of training camp at The Greenbrier, there were four reporters left covering the team, with one of them being ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.

That led John Harbaugh to give props to Raanan and the other three reporters, and jokingly let them know not to downplay this moment.

“The guys that made it all the way through, right? Impressive. Make sure you brag about that in your columns,” Harbaugh said.

The reporters may end up touching on the topic in their stories, but everyone knows they’re going to talk mostly about what they’ve seen from the players during practice. They were also there to give injury updates, with one of them being Cam Skattebo and his progress to return to the field after his injury from last season.

Skattebo actually had an injury scare during practice when he ran into Arvell Reese, but Harbaugh downplayed any assumption that he was dealing with something serious, according to Darryl Slater of NJ.com.

“After Friday’s training camp practice, Giants coach John Harbaugh downplayed Cam Skattebo’s apparent injury while speaking to reporters in West Virginia,” Slater wrote. “Harbaugh said Skattebo isn’t dealing with anything serious — and is just continuing to work his way back from last year’s major ankle injury.”

The hope is that Skattebo is ready when the Giants play Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, and all signs are pointing to him being available. Many fans are also hoping that Malik Nabers will suit up when the season starts, as he continues to recover from his ACL injury last season.

He’s looked good in practice so far, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the field.
