Spurs take down Timberwolves with career game by Stephon Castle
He’s only playing in his second NBA season, but guard Stephon Castle played with the poise of a seasoned veteran for the San Antonio Spurs on Friday evening.
The Spurs have eliminated the Minnesota Timberwolves from the NBA Playoffs thanks to a breakout performance from Castle, who scored a team-high 32 points while grabbing 11 rebounds and adding six assists in the 139-109 victory at Target Center in Minneapolis.
Additionally, the Spurs were boosted thanks to 21 points and nine assists from De’Aaron Fox and nine assists, while rookie Dylan Harper chipped in with 15 points off the bench. Victor Wembanyama was limited to 19 points.
At just 21 years of age, Castle is now the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 30 points, grab 10 rebounds, and hit at least five three-point shots while shooting 65 percent in a playoff game.
The Spurs now have a date with the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Final, which will begin in Oklahoma City on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Castle is already beaming with confidence, as he should be after such a clutch performance indicative of a veteran who has been to the mountaintop multiple times.
“We knew we were ahead of schedule probably in December last year,” Castle said via NBAPrime on X. “They’re [OKC] the defending champs. We know it’s gonna be tough to knock them off but I think we’re pretty confident we could do it.”
