Spurs prepared for everything amid Anthony Edwards injury uncertainty
It looks like Anthony Edwards will play in Game 1 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs despite a nasty knee injury, even after it looked like he may not be available until later in the series. The good news is, the San Antonio Spurs have been approaching the opener as if they’ll line up against him.
“We’re preparing as if he’ll play,” Devin Vassell said following the team’s shoot-around several hours ahead of the game.
“We have match-ups and if he doesn’t play, we’re still consistent in what we’re doing. So, obviously, it’s a big change if he plays. If he doesn’t, we’re ready for either/or,” the second-longest tenured Spur continued.
The longest-tenured Spur echoed similar sentiments. ClutchPoints asked Keldon Johnson about his approach to the Timberwolves star now that he will play.
“I feel like preparation is everything, especially at this point in the season. We have to prepare and be ready for anything. We just try to cover all bases. I’m not really sure if he plays or if he does not play, but we just try to prepare as best as possible, so that we’re ready for anything that’s thrown at us.”

The NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, Johnson is in his seventh year with the Silver and Black. Vassell was taken in the following draft by the Spurs – like Johnson, also in the first round.
Edwards has been out since Game 4 vs. the Denver Nuggets in the first round with a bone bruise and hyperextended right knee. He is rushing back from an injury that looked like it would keep him sidelined for multiple weeks. But the Spurs are ready for him, no matter how close to 100% he is.
“We’re ready if he does, ” Vassell said.
