Braves add pitching depth with trade for Giants’ Tyler Mahle

The Atlanta Braves showed they weren’t satisfied with landing Lance Thomas and Bailey Falter. The latter becomes one of two pitchers now added before the MLB Trade Deadline. This time the Braves reel in Tyler Mahle of the San Francisco Giants Sunday.

Robert Murray of FanSided and Foul Territory reported the trade, which includes Anthony Molina heading to SF in exchange.

But Mahle rises as the latest aggressive move done by Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos. Plus comes nearly 24 hours after pulling off the multiple player deal with the Kansas City Royals to land Thomas and Falter.

So Mahle ends a truncated run with the Giants, lasting just 18 games. He finished with a 3-9 record on the hill. Opposing hitters smashed 95 hits against him including blasting 14 home runs. But he struck out 89 batters, 23 more than what he delivered with the Texas Rangers 2025.

The right-hander previously played two seasons with the latter franchise, playing in 19 total games. He went 6-4 as a starter in the 2025 campaign. Mahle also threw for the Minnesota Twins from 2022 to 2023, going a combined 2-3 overall there. He launched his MLB career with the Cincinnati Reds first, playing his first six seasons there.

San Francisco pulls this move off amid taking a 5-4 road loss to the National League rival San Diego Padres. Landen Roupp started on the hill for the Giants and allowed six hits but fanned six batters. Jung Hoo Lee led the Giants with two hits, becoming the only SF player to pound the ball multiple times in the loss.
