Spurs’ Game 7 vs. Thunder surpasses 2 billion views across social media

It’s been over a decade of waiting, but for the first time since 2014, the San Antonio Spurs have advanced to the NBA Finals. They overcame a three-games-to-two series deficit against the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, rebounding with two straight victories.

The Spurs capped the series with a victory in Game 7 on the road in Oklahoma City, a 111-103 final score to propel them to the NBA’s championship round, where the New York Knicks await. Coincidentally, this is also the first trip by the Knicks to the NBA Finals since 1999, when they were defeated by the Spurs.

And the decisive matchup in Game 7 between the Spurs and Thunder was must-see viewing across the country. In fact, thanks to today’s multitude of viewership options, the game became the most-watched matchup in NBA history, surpassing a whopping two billion views across all platforms. Additionally, Game 1 nearly reached that total with 1.9 billion views.

The Spurs were boosted by Victor Wembanyama’s 22 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, while also getting 20 points and six rebounds from Julian Champagnie. Additionally, Julian Champagnie became just the third player in NBA history, alongside the former Golden State Warriors splash brothers duo of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, to make six or more 3-pointers in a Conference Finals Game 7.

Meanwhile, Chet Holmgren of the Thunder drew massive criticism for contributing a mere four points while taking just two total field goals during the must-win game. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way for Oklahoma City with 35 points.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals begins on Wednesday evening.
