Spurs’ Dylan Harper reveals 5-time NBA champion dad’s advice after reaching Finals

The San Antonio Spurs are heading to the NBA Finals after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7, and it took a complete team effort for them to get the job done. Some will probably think it was all on Victor Wembanyama to lead the team, but little do they know, several players made big plays not only in Game 7, but the entire postseason.

Dylan Harper has been one of the key players for the Spurs this postseason, and the most impressive thing is that he’s just a rookie. The good news for Harper is that he has a five-time champion in his ear, as his father is Ron Harper.

After Game 7, Harper shared what advice his father had given him throughout the postseason.

“He congratulates me, and then he talks about what he did, and he kind of just leaves it at that,” Harper said. “He just told me to be confident in myself, and there’s a reason why I’m here. The job’s not finished, and he’s been preaching that to me throughout this whole playoffs and always telling me to do the little things. Make sure that I’m aggressive and make sure at the end of the day I leave it all out there.”

It’s obvious that Ron knows what it takes to win a championship, and he won three straight with the Chicago Bulls and two straight with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Just like Ron made some big plays throughout his career, Dylan has already done the same with the Spurs in his rookie season. As he said, the job is not finished, and he’ll have to bring that same high level of play to the Finals against the New York Knicks.

This is also just the beginning of Dylan’s career, and it will be interesting to see what he accomplishes throughout his career.
