Spencer Strider, Sean Murphy injury updates before Braves goes for sweep of Phillies

The Atlanta Braves are on a four-game winning streak and will have a chance to sweep the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday. However, they know they’d be an even scarier opponent with Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy back on the roster.

Both are inching closer and will move their rehab assignments to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, via Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game. Strider is working his way back from an oblique strain while Murphy is coming back from hip surgery.

The right-hander made his first rehab appearance on Thursday for High-A Rome, pitching 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball. Now moving up to Triple-A, the Braves will be paying close attention to Strider’s pitch count and velocity.

When he does return, Strider will be looking to improve on a 2025 campaign that saw him pitch to a 4.45 ERA and a 131/51 K/BB ratio. A former All-Star, Atlanta’s rotation will get a major boost if Strider is healthy in producing.

Murphy has appeared in three games on his rehab assignment, all for High-A Rome. He has yet to register a hit. However, he’ll now have a chance to work with Strider in Triple-A. Their return will be a package deal of sorts for the Braves.

While Atlanta already has burgeoning star Drake Baldwin, Murphy’s return should add a spark to the lineup. While his .199 batting average was pretty, he had 16 home runs and 45 RBIs in 2025. The Braves will at least hope he can be a run producer upon return.

Still early in the season, Atlanta will be cautious with both Strider and Murphy. But how they handle the Triple-A level will determine how quickly they’re back in the majors.
