Giants’ Jaxson Dart drops ‘proud’ reaction to Odell Beckham Jr. making 53-man roster

Jaxson Dart grew up watching Odell Beckham Jr. make NFL history. Now, the New York Giants quarterback gets to share a locker room with the player who inspired countless young football fans.

After Beckham earned a spot on the Giants’ initial 53-man roster, Dart reflected on what it means to have the veteran wide receiver as a teammate. For the young quarterback, the experience is equal parts nostalgic and inspiring.

“From that perspective, I would say it’s pretty nostalgic,” Dart told reporters. “Just like as a kid, that’s like an icon in a way. Where you feel like he changed the game a little bit.”

Beckham became one of the NFL’s biggest stars after his spectacular rookie season with the Giants in 2014. His one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys that year became an instant classic and helped turn him into a household name.

For Dart, who was still a young fan watching Beckham’s rise, those memories make the current situation particularly special.

“Like, you’re in your backyard as a young kid, talking about like, Odell when you catch it one hand or just things like that,” he said.

Now, instead of watching Beckham’s highlights from afar, the Ole Miss product has seen firsthand how much work the veteran has put in to earn his place on the roster.

“So that part, it’s a really cool experience from a player’s standpoint. Just really just proud of him,” Dart said. “He came in here, he earned it. He got better each and every week.”

The 23-year-old has also been impressed with Beckham’s performance throughout the preseason, particularly his ability to make an impact despite being an established veteran trying to earn his way onto the roster. He also praised Beckham’s presence in the locker room, noting that younger players can still learn plenty from a veteran who has already experienced the highs and lows of an NFL career.

“He’s playing his best ball since he got here right now,” Dart said. “From just alignment assignment, playing fast, getting open, making plays.”

“So there’s a lot that we as younger guys can learn from him.” he added.

With the roster spot secured, Beckham can now turn his attention toward the regular season. For the younger players around him, having a veteran who has already experienced the highs and lows of an NFL career could be just as valuable as what he brings on the field.
