Shea Theodore toasts Golden Knights for weathering early ‘storm’ in Game 1
Game 1 of the 2026 Stanley Cup Final was nothing short of a thriller, and it ultimately resulted in the Vegas Golden Knights defeating the Carolina Hurricanes by a 5-4 final score, taking a one-game-to-none series lead.
With the victory, the Golden Knights are now just three wins away from their second Stanley Cup win in franchise history.
Despite trailing in the first period thanks to a pair of goals from Nikolaj Ehlers, Vegas defenseman Shea Theodore got the comeback started with a key goal to cut their lead in half. Afterward, Theodore praised the rest of his teammates for not wilting under the pressure of trailing by multiple goals early on.
“I think just the resiliency, we knew they would push in the first (period),” Theodore said via Sportsnet on X. “I felt like we weathered the storm. It was good to get one kind of late, and make it 2-1. I thought we really pushed in the second, and you know, we’re a great third period team and we like our game.”
When asked if he ever remembers having to chase as many games as the club has this season, Theodore answered that they’ve faced difficulties during the regular season and they’re comfortable with it.
“I mean, it kind of seems like that’s the way it was all year, we battled a lot of adversity through the regular season. We seem to be kind of comfortable with it now.”
