Saints’ Chris Olave injury update provides insight on practice absence
The New Orleans Saints are currently taking part in mandatory minicamp as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The Saints are hoping to slowly start building toward contention this year after another tough season in 2025, albeit one that saw the emergence of Tyler Shough as the team’s clear quarterback of the future.
Noticeably absent at minicamp this week is wide receiver Chris Olave, who has a storied injury history with the team. Recently, head coach Kellen Moore gave a brief update on the wide receiver’s status moving forward.
“Moore said Olave is ramping up and not taking part in team drills yet at OTAs,” reported Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football on X, formerly Twitter.
Olave missed the final game of the season last year with a blood clot, and prior to that, the star had accumulated a scary history of concussions that had some wondering if his career might be in jeopardy. When he’s on the field, Olave remains a talented pass catcher who can win contested jump balls down the field and boasts elite quickness and route-running ability to throw off opposing secondaries.
Shough would certainly love to have Olave on the field as much as possible next season. The Saints’ offense started to show some signs of life down the stretch of the 2025 season, and although the team is clearly a long way off from entering legit playoff contention conversations, that duo could give them the framework to build something sustainable moving forward.
In any case, the Saints are set to kick off their 2026 season on September 13 with a tough road game against the Detroit Lions.
