Reds’ Sal Stewart makes jaw-dropping history while embarrassing Yankees

The Cincinnati Reds had a tough assignment against the New York Yankees and starting pitcher Will Warren in the second of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. However, the Reds were in attack mode at the plate, and they overpowered the Yankees by a 10-2 margin. The Reds were led by shortstop Sal Stewart, who pummeled the Yankees and knocked in six runs.

The game marked the second time this year that Stewart had driven in six runs in a game. Stewart became the second Reds player with two games that included 6 RBI in the team’s first 75 games of the season. Stewart matched the achievement of of Derek Dietrich, who recorded the achievement in 1920.

The shortstop also drove in six runs for the Reds in an 8-3 triumph April 15 over the San Francisco Giants.

Stewart was 2 for 4 against the Yankees with a pair of doubles. He had a two-run double off of Warren in the third inning that gave the Reds a 2-1 lead. He followed that by hitting a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, extending the Cincinnati advantage to 3-1. He finished his big afternoon with a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases in the eighth inning. That shot gave the Reds a 10-1 advantage.

In addition to Stewart’s production, the Reds got big offensive performances for second baseman Edwin Arroyo and Spencer Steer. Arroyo had four hits in five at bats, while Steer hammered a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Andrew Abbott (5-4) pitched 5.0 innings for the Reds and gave up one earned run on a home run by Paul Goldschmidt and was credited with the victory
