Rangers’ Brandon Nimmo weighs in on rationale behind Mets trade

The New York Mets set out to change the team’s core last season by trading Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers for Marcus Semien. It was a deal that surprised some people, given Nimmo’s place in the organization. However, some wondered if there was any clubhouse tension that led to the move. Nevertheless, Nimmo doesn’t believe there were any issues, according to SNY Mets via X, formerly Twitter.

“I believe it was probably just a baseball decision. I didn’t see anything wrong with the chemistry between the guys, and if it was happening it was happening and I didn’t know about it,” Nimmo said.

The decision to switch up the core hasn’t gone well for the Mets, as they sit 13-22 and 11.5 games back in the National League East. It has been a disaster in New York this season, while Nimmo has been in the middle of the best season of his career, further infuriating Mets fans.

Nimmo is batting .300 with four home runs. The Rangers’ outfielder has been battling through some hamstring injuries this season, but when healthy, he looks great after a couple of tough seasons in New York. After a terrible year with a .224 batting average in 2024, he did bounce back in 2025.

Nimmo is back in New York this week to play against the Yankees, but won’t face off against his old team until the second-last series of the season. The Mets will visit the Rangers for that series, meaning Nimmo’s return to Queens will have to wait.
