Luke Humphries to win the Premier League @ 12/5
Defending Premier League king Luke Humphries has come alive in the final few weeks of this season’s campaign and Cool Hand can land Finals Night bets.
The Newbury arrowsmith has won nine of his last 12 Premier League matches, reaching the final of all of the last four weeks and winning in Birmingham a fortnight ago.
It’s not just the results of Humphries which have impressed; the level of performance has been superb too.
The defending Premier League champion has averaged 102.23, 100.82, 105.24, 100.16, 110.98, 107.36, 100.90 and 106.68 in his last eight league games, and that could be too much for semi-final opponent Clayton to handle.
Of course, there is the small matter of a potential final against Littler, but the Nuke faces a tricky semi-final against the fiery Price and Humphries has shown in recent weeks that he has the game to beat the world champion.
Humphries beat Littler 6-1 in Sheffield last week; it was 6-3 in Birmingham a fortnight ago, and while the Nuke didn’t have a huge desire for points in those games, Cool Hand can take plenty of confidence from those victories.
The defending champion has an easier route to this year’s final and, at 12/5, there is enough in the price to think the 31-year-old can hold on to his crown in London.
Gerwyn Price to beat Luke Littler @ 9/4
Price will need to snap an eight-match losing run against Littler in the Premier League semi-finals on Thursday evening and the Welshman could prove up to the job.
The Iceman hasn’t enjoyed any success against the Nuke in this season’s Premier League, but the Markham man should have beaten the World Champion in both the Saudi Arabia and World Masters at the start of the season and the 2023 Premier League runner-up is a far better performer than his record against Littler suggests.
Away from the Premier League, Price has won and finished runner-up in the two Euro Tour events he has contested this term, he claimed the title in the Players Championship six on his last appearance on the Pro Tour and his 101.79 is the highest on the tour this season.
Those efforts and numbers give a clear indication that the Iceman is at the peak of his powers, and if Littler is a little short of his brilliant best, Price has the game to take advantage.
Of course, the Nuke has the game to destroy any opponent, but the 19-year-old admitted that his practice has tailed off in recent weeks and perhaps it won’t be a push-button return to his best.
Given the considerations of Thursday’s semi-final, the price is right to side with an Iceman success.
