22-year-old amateur talent wants to emulate Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford after signing deal

Precocious talent Odel Kamara is planning to brush shoulders with legends in his professional career.

The Liverpudlian star has made a fantastic impression in the sport already so far as an amateur, winning a bronze medal at the World Championship last year.

He will now turn professional at the age of 22 and has inked a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom Boxing.

It is an exciting time for Kamara, who believes he belongs at the pinnacle of the sport.

And in an exclusive appearance on talkSPORT Fight Night, he suggested Crawford and Alvarez act as markers for his planned success.

“I definitely want to unify all the belts at light-middleweight,” Kamara said.

“I want to do it at the other middleweights too, I want to do what Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford have done.

“My style is athleticism, the strength and speed, and nobody at my weights can match me at that.

“Right now I just need to develop in professional boxing and tailor my style.

“When I manage to put it all together, no-one will stop me.

“I can visualise in all the adverts and the movies, I just want it all.”

Alvarez and Crawford are two legends of the sport, and they touched gloves in a bout worth over $50million each last September.

Both have an extensive list of achievements and will go down as all-time greats, particularly Crawford who has retired from the sport.

Kamara will need to go on to have a bright career if he is to even go close to the iconic pugilists.

Of course, given how impressive Kamara’s time in the unpaid ranks were, it was no surprise that there was a race for his signature.

He received offers from the likes of Frank Warren, Dana White‘s Zuffa Boxing and even Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions.

But he has explained he ultimately chose Matchroom and Hearn, because he believes they have seen his potential as a commercial superstar.

“Everybody talked to me, we had them all in for me,” Kamara continued.

“I think they could see the star power that I possess and can grow in the future.

“I’m confident in myself and I think they probably watched the World Championship closely.

“They said to me look ‘we are going all in on this kid’ and yeah I knew this was the place to be.”
