TOUR Championship 30-man field confirmed as stars battle it out for $40million purse

The 2026 PGA Tour season will reach its finale this weekend as the world’s best head back to East Lake.

Following another year of elite action, the FedExCup title will be claimed by one of this season’s 30 best players.

The limited field will head to Atlanta to battle it out for the $40million purse which Tommy Fleetwood won last year.

There will be no starting strokes at this year’s event and whoever comes out on top will claim the FedExCup.

Scottie Scheffler has a 1,500 points advantage over Matt Fitzpatrick in the FedExCup standings but that will mean nothing at East Lake this summer.

Wyndham Clark heads into the finale high in confidence following his win at the BMW Championship last week while runner-up Rory McIlroy will be eyeing this fourth FedExCup.

TOUR Championship: Dates and how to follow

The 2026 TOUR Championship is taking place from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.

It is being held at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia – the course is a par 70 and measures a mammoth 7,440 yards in length.

The action will get underway at 3pm UK time each day.

The weather conditions could impact play with thundery showers and 32C heat expected throughout the week.

TOUR Championship: Field and tee times

The final event of the season will be made up of the top 30 players in the FedexCup standings.

The top ten players in the world will be in action including Scheffler and McIlroy.

Open champion Ryan Fox was the 30th and final man in the field while Justin Rose, Adam Scott and Tom Kim did just enough to make East Lake too.

This event has a $40million purse with a staggering $10m going to the champion.

TOUR Championship: What has been said?

McIlroy believes he can still improve heading to East Lake despite narrowly missing out at Bellerive on Sunday.

“I’m closer [with his game] than I was at the start of the week,” McIlroy said.

“I’m still not in a spot where I’m super happy with where my game is or where my swing is, so I just have to keep working on it.

“It’s nice to know, even when I’m not super happy with everything, I can still piece it together and get it around and still give myself a chance to win tournaments.”

Meanwhile, FedExCup leader Scheffler has revealed he has be fighting Hand, foot and mouth disease heading into the season’s showpiece.

He said: “I felt better as the week went on. I got sick Monday night – that was probably the most frustrating part.  

“Playing really good golf and you come out of the heat and get a little adrenaline, then sometimes your body kind of crashes. 

“It hit me pretty good all week. I’m still not a hundred per cent now, but I’ll get some rest now and hopefully that will help.

“I got the hand, foot and mouth. So you get blisters on your hands and in your throat and on your feet. To start the week it was pretty painful to grip the club.”

“If I was smarter maybe I would have pulled out, but I was playing so good I felt like if I could knock it out quickly and just get through the first couple rounds I would still have a chance.

“I think that’s part of my stubbornness. That’s probably a strength of mine and a weakness at times. I definitely didn’t want to do that [withdraw] going into this week, even though it was suggested, but I’m proud of how I fought.”
